A neutral palette calls for a dash of beachy sophistication with the custom woven wood shades and drapery installed throughout this Summerland home. Pampel Design was excited to partner with the homeowner to enhance this luxurious home with beautiful and functional designs.
It’s hard not to stand in awe of the stately drapes in the dining room; towering over ten feet tall, the fabric panels are horizontally striped to give a unique flair and character to the room. We chose to add a light-filtering liner to guard the natural fabrics and protect them from direct sunlight, adding to the longevity of the curtain and color for years to come.
The iron drapery and curtain hardware are custom-made in San Luis Obispo by professional metal fabricator, Rob Lobos. With a distinct vision in mind, Val had Rob create the exclusive and custom-wrought designs displayed in the brackets and iron hardware detailing throughout the home.
The shades, done in a soft white, are handwoven and hand-dyed, boasting exceptional precision as top-of-the-market premier Hartmann & Forbes shades. Complete with a smart-home Somfy motor, these shades embody the definition of elegance and luxury - all at the press of a button.

Coastal Views | Reducing Glare
With sweeping coastal views and expansive windows for gazing, we sought to create a look that felt both airy and bright for this beachside bungalow. To soften the space, we used a luxurious open weave drapery to filter the light, highlighting the dreamy view while eliminating any unnecessary glare. For the master bedroom on the upper level, we did a linen fabric with a light-filtering lining to ensure the highest privacy while still maintaining the breathtaking view.
On the exterior, we installed our retractable Domina Awning to establish a sleek look that could easily camouflage into the side of the house when not in use. As beachside homes in Santa Barbara often absorb an intense glare during the winter months, we strategically installed the awning to cover the beachside patio area, reducing the glare and making it more comfortable during the warmer months of the summer.
